Afghans for Afghans — 5,000 Kids Campaign — 2005

This summer, we called upon our customers and staff to make woolen garments for the Afghans for Afghans "5,000 Kids Campaign", which seeks to provide warm winter garments to at least 5,000 Afghan children. These garments are distributed through orphanages and health clinics.

We'd participated in this effort two years ago and contributed 37 items to that year's campaign.

Our initial goal for this year's campaign was 50 garments — 1% of the total goal. We had exceeded that number within a few weeks and quickly raised our goal to 100.

We are thrilled and humbled at the generous response of our customers. A few dozen people made and contributed 147 wool or wool-blend hats, vests, sweaters, mittens, socks, and slippers — nearly three times our initial goal.

These items have been shipped to Afghans for Afghans headquarters, where they will be sorted and packed for shipping to Afghanistan in early October.

We extend our thanks to all who opened their hearts and busied their hands to help these children. Each of you has made a difference for a child in need.
