Soft Waves Afghan Recipe

Janice Farrell Pea, Sketched-on-a-Napkin Designs

Janice crocheted this glorious afghan using Cascade 220 yarn and a Ripple Stitch published in 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns by Jan Eaton (KP Books, 2006). Janice used the Soft Waves pattern (on page 19).

She has provided the details in case you buy Jan's wonderful book and want to make a Soft Waves afghan of your own. Please understand that this page is not intended to be a "stand alone" pattern. If you don't have Jan Eaton's book, you won't be able to create this afghan.

Gauge

Using a 5mm crochet hook, one pattern repeat (12 sts) was 4.5 inches and two rows were approximately 1 inch.

Yarn (Cascade 220 yarn)

Color ATeal Heather9 Skeins
Color BApple Green Heather3 Skeins
Color CCopper Heather3 Skeins
Color DDeep Purple Heather1 Skein
Color EDeep Red Heather1 Skein

She started by chaining 183 sts in Color A and then worked the following color sequence six times:

Rows 1 — 3Color A
Row 4Color B
Rows 5 — 6Color C
Row 7Color B
Rows 8 — 10Color A
Row 11Color D
Rows 12 — 14Color A
Row 15Color C
Rows 16 — 17Color B
Row 18Color C
Rows 19 — 21Color B
Row 22Color E

Then she workd rows 1-21 one last time [153 rows total]. Note that you should use the new color to work the ch3 before turning the work.

If you choose a different combination or sequence of colors, one skein of cascade 220 yields over 8 rows in this pattern stitch (on a 5mm crochet hook at this gauge with 183 sts per row).
